Sponsoring a Child
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SPONSORING A CHILD THROUGH GO PHILANTHROPIC FOUNDATION
Congratulations on considering investing in a young child’s future. Sponsorship is an important and rewarding experience that brings hope and a future to a child, often in the most desperate of situations.
We know you may have questions about how to sponsor a child and what sponsorship entails, so we’ve created this Q&A especially for you.
Background: GoPhilanthropic partners with a small not for profit organization Children’s Education Foundation (CEF), located in Hoi An, Vietnam. CEF focuses mostly on girls, and some boys, from impoverished or marginalized communities who are extremely poor and have little or no hope of receiving an education. Receiving the gift of education can break the poverty cycle and offer the possibility of a better future for a young child. The GoPhilanthropic team provides a careful vetting of each partner organization and an annual visit so you can feel comfortable that your money is going just where you have designated it to go.
Q: How are children selected for the program?
Children in need are selected from the local community of Hoi An as well as other rural districts in Quang Nam. The children are recommended from local community leaders. Before accepting a child in the program, the CEF staff makes a home visit and carefully assesses the child’s situation and needs and affirms their story. The local government confirms the level of poverty of the family as well. Often a child will also need assistance with food or medicines in order to thrive and have the best school results. Go Philanthropic reviews CEF’s recommendations as each year there are children in need of sponsorship.
Q: How am I matched with a child?
A child’s background information, photo and any special needs are shared with GoPhilanthropic. When you wish to sponsor a child we can let you know of children in need and share their information with you. It is then up to you to decide if that child feels like the right match.
Q: As a sponsor, what do I receive and how is the GoPhilanthropic program different from other programs?
As a sponsor you will receive at least two personal communications a year from the GoPhilanthropic/CEF team. This includes, minimally, an annual school report, updated photos of the child if available, reports on any family visits as well as the possibility of letters between you and your chosen child. Additionally, the Go Philanthropic team takes your caring and donation very seriously and makes an annual visit to Vietnam to visit with the CEF staff and meet some of the children. You are always warmly invited to join these journeys and to get to know your sponsored child where possible. We believe this personal attention is what makes sponsorship through CEF and GoPhilanthropic a particularly rewarding experience.
As one sponsor said:
"It is so wonderful to hear that our sponsored student has graduated from high school and so rewarding to know that our sponsorship has helped protect her and given her opportunities most girls from these communities do not have. I have appreciated all the personal attention to detail from the GoPhilanthropic staff including sending photos as well as periodic updates. It had meant a lot to me and my family and we plan to continue to stay in touch.”
Q: How much does sponsorship cost?
The average cost of sponsoring a child in elementary school is $250; $335 for middle school (grades 6-9) and then $375 for high school; that’s between 68 cents and $1 per day! This includes tuition and, sometimes, special studies, food etc. As a child reaches higher education, we will be in touch with you about potential costs.
Q: How long does my sponsorship last?
Your sponsorship is often the only chance a child may have to complete his/her education and continues until you indicate you wish to terminate it. Your donation is charged to your credit card on an annual automatic renewal basis with a reminder from us at least two weeks before the renewal on record. Once your child graduates from high school, fees naturally increase and we will discuss this with you. We hope you will consider continuing to sponsor your child as he/she comes closer to realizing his/her dreams.
Q: Are you ready to get started?
Just complete the donation form, selecting the annual recurring option under donation information frequency and we’ll take it from there. If you have additional questions or would like to talk with a GoPhilanthropic team member, just let us know and we will personally contact you. And remember, one more benefit to you is that your contribution is tax-deductible as allowed by law.
