WHAT THEY DO
Eight young street children started M-Lisada in 1996 with the dream of helping others children get off the streets. Their mission is to reduce the number of children living on the streets in Uganda, by providing them with a home, an education and protection. M-Lisada strives to restore dignity and self-confidence through the teaching of life skills, music, and the arts, improving the lives of vulnerable children and their chances for the future. There are currently 75 children living at M-Lisada and an additional 40 children that come off the streets to take refuge in their home.
Since opening their doors, over 400 children have benefited at M-Lisada. More than 7 million children in Uganda today are orphans.

Music and Dance: Each child learns to play a brass instrument, traditional dancing or acrobatics. Offering these activities not only begin to rebuild their confidence, it allows the children to begin to look forward to a better life and leave their past behind them.

Education and Health:  The children that arrive off the streets at M-Lisada each day receive a shower, food, counseling, music lessons, basic school work and a safe place to stay. However, at the end of the day, they return to the streets.

Rescue and Reunite: M-Lisada reconnects children with their families - to date, 35 children have been reunited with their families.

Sustainable Farming (Bombo)
Key to sustainability is a confidence that you can provide shelter and food. The farm at Bombo was started with this in mind. The land is vast and encourages the children to play, enjoy the the fresh air, and help out with the crops and other chores. The goal is to eventually allow M-Lisada have the ability to produce their own healthy food.

Mummy Foundation
Mummy Foundation is community based organization which was formed with the vision to rescue the future of young girls and teenage mothers in the Katwe Slum. Aware of the obstacles faced by the girls in the community, the foundation was formed to provide a safe haven for the very young and vulnerable girls and to help marginalized girls develop their talents. Mummy Foundation promotes discipline and good morals among the girls and strives to restore hope within the community. There can be as many as 90 girls using the facility each day.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
The focus of GoPhilanthropic's support includes:

  • Education:  The education fund will not only provide ongoing critical funding to ensure that all the children at M-Lisada can go to school but improve the quality of schools that they attend.
  • Health and Nutrition:  These are integral pieces of successful education and there are many ongoing and one time needs with respect to the health clinic and nutritional needs of the children.  Our primary focus with respect to nutrition is in continued support to their sustainable farming project in Bombo which will provide a long-term solution in producing a healthy source of fruits and vegetables for the children.
