GoPhil strongly believes every child has the right to grow up in a safe and nurturing family environment. So, when TARA reached out to us back in 2017 and asked for our support to develop a new community outreach program – aimed at strengthening families and preventing children from ending up in residential care – we were delighted to learn from this experience!

Our Director of Programs, Emily, worked at TARA before joining GoPhiI and was thrilled to participate in their steering committee for the development and creation of their new outreach service. When the TARA Outreach Center (TOC) opened in early 2019, GoPhil became one of its first funders! Since then, we have supported overhead and running costs for the center with annual grants and closely followed its progress.

In a recent video interview, Emily talked to Akanksha Michyari, previously the Child Welfare Officer at TARA Boys and now Program Manager at TOC, to learn more about TARA’s journey – why and how TOC was established, what services they offer, and how it is supporting families to become stronger and more stable. While education remains at the heart of TOC’s work, we learn about how other interventions are all critical in addressing the challenges families face.

Akanksha speaks so passionately and articulately about TOC’s work and we hope you have a chance to listen to this short interview!

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to Akanksha! We hope the video provided some insight into how important TARA’s work is for their community. We would love to hear from you if you have any questions or feedback!
